Hugging Face's NLP course is free and teaches practical use of Transformers and the wider ecosystem. Lessons combine explanations with code and exercises rather than requiring a paid certificate.
The material is Python-first. Keep Java as your main engineering track, and treat this as focused ML practice: tokenization, datasets, fine-tuning, evaluation and model sharing.
A useful outcome is one small, documented project such as text classification or retrieval, with a baseline, held-out evaluation and a short model card. Avoid trying to complete every chapter alongside the 365-day programme if that threatens consistency.
